Michael Jackson's ex-wife to testify about his secret drug use

Pop superstar Michael Jackson, the most famous of Joe and Katherine's children, had three kids

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Michael Jackson's ex-wife will be questioned Wednesday about the singer's drug use by lawyers for the concert promoter being sued in his death. Debbie Rowe, who is the mother of Jackson's two oldest children, has rarely given interviews since her divorce from the pop icon. But she must testify under oath in the wrongful death trial of AEG Live. AEG Live contends that Jackson used the surgical anesthetic propofol for years to treat his insomnia, including when Rowe was traveling with him in Europe in the 1990s.The coroner ruled Jackson died on June 25, 2009 from a propofol overdose administered by Dr. Conrad Murray, who is serving a prison sentence for involuntary manslaughter...Read more

Jesse Jackson Jr. gets 30 months in prison for misusing campaign funds

Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. enters U.S. District Court in Washington on February 20. .
Washington (CNN) -- Former U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., once a rising Democratic star whose political fortunes imploded over crimes to finance lavish living, was sentenced to 30 months in prison on Wednesday.
"I misled the American people," Jackson, 48, said before U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson imposed the term, which she said should be served in Alabama.
The ex-Illinois lawmaker's wife, Sandi, received a 12-month sentence for her role in her husband's misuse of roughly $750,000 in campaign funds over several years.
The pair pleaded guilty in February to various charges -- Jackson to one count of conspiracy to commit wire and mail fraud, and false statements; and his wife to filing false tax returns.
A smooth politician and the son of a civil rights leader and one-time political heavyweight, Jackson admitted to years of using campaign money to pay for things such as vacations, furs and Michael Jackson memorabilia.
In a statement read in court, Jackson said he wanted to be held accountable for his actions and he knew what he did was wrong.
He also asked the judge to not punish his wife for what he said "was a subset of what I did."
"I ask that my kids not suffer from my actions," Jackson said of his two children, 9 and 13. "If probation is not available to my wife, give me her time."...Read more

A few of the newspapers have got themselves very excited about comments from Samuel Eto’o, with the Cameroon international seemingly opening the door to a move to Chelsea. The Daily Mirror have picked up on quotes Eto’o gave to the press on Monday, suggesting he would love to leave Anzhi Makhachkala for the Premier League. The phrase "a come-and-get-me plea" may have also been used in some quarters.

"Chelsea are a great team," said the Cameroonian. "When we have all the offers on the table then I will discuss with my agent and see what my next step is."

Why does Eto’o fancy the switch to Stamford Bridge? To link up once again with Jose Mourinho, it seems. The pair enjoyed a fruitful relationship during their time at Inter Milan.

There is only one Jose Mourinho. I have played under a lot of great coaches - but there is no other character in the game like Jose.

He is one of the best coaches in the world - and we had a lot of success together at Inter Milan. I would like to have the chance to play under him again - because it is never boring when Jose is around. Read more...

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Michael Jackson's youngest brother made an unsuccessful effort to reach the singer in his last weeks because of family concerns about his drug use, according to testimony in the AEG Live wrongful death trial.
Lawyers for the concert promoter accused of liability in Jackson's death want to show that the pop icon was a secretive drug addict who was even beyond his family's help.
Jurors watched video of Randy Jackson's questioning by the AEG Live lawyers about failed interventions he led because of his concerns about Michael Jackson's use of painkillers in the last decade of his brother's life.

Jackson died from an overdose of the surgical anesthetic propofol that a doctor told police he was using to treat his insomnia as he rehearsed for a comeback tour four years ago. Jackson's mother and three children are suing the concert promoter, contending it negligently hired, retained or supervised the doctor convicted of involuntary manslaughter in his death. Read more...

Chris Brown Rep Blames Seizure on Legal Woes, "Nonstop Negativity"

Chris brown
Someone in the artist's camp tells TMZ that Brown was felled by a "nonepileptic" seizure, which made headlines Friday when it was first reported. The 24-year-old star recovered quickly, however, and refused medical assistance at the scene when EMTs arrived at his Hollywood recording studio.
What brought on the incident? It was triggered by "intense fatigue and extreme emotional stress ... both due to the continued onslaught of unfounded legal matters and the nonstop negativity." Seriously. It's the haters' fault. All the haters. People have GOT to stop being so critical of Brown bludgeoning Rihanna, then showing little remorse years later, while proving time and again that he has major anger issues. Criticism of Chris is giving the guy seizures! On the legal side, he is being sued by a woman who alleged he assaulted her at a nightclub ... and his probation was revoked due to a hit and run accident. He also hinted a few days ago that he may quit music after his next album because he's tired of being famous for something he did four and a half years ago. For the guy's own health, that sounds like a terrific idea. Read more...

Jonathan to Akande: Respect your age

President Goodluck
President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday told the interim Chairman of the newly-registered All Progressives Congress, Chief Bisi Akande, to respect his age. The President’s  admonition was in reaction to Akande’s description of Jonathan as an unserious-minded person  running a kindergarten  government. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, the President said it was “certainly rude, ill-mannered, uncharitable and hypocritical” for Akande to describe him on Saturday  in such an uncharitable manner. The statetement was titled,“President Jonathan to Akande: Respect the truth, your age and Nigeria.” The statement pointed out that Akande did no justice to his age and status when he resorted to “propagating falsehood, wilfully insulting the President of his country, impugning his integrity and desecrating the office which his party wishes to take over in 2015 by fair or foul means.” It reads in part, “We have noted with dismay,  the continuation of efforts by leaders of the opposition to promote themselves and their party through the irresponsible denigration of President  Jonathan and the exalted office of the President. “The interim national chairman of the APC, Chief  Akande sank to a new low in this regard  when he rudely and falsely described President Jonathan as a ‘kindergarten’ leader who treats national issues with levity. Read more...

Assange: Obama 'validates' Snowden

President Obama
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange says President Obama's plans to make changes in National Security Agency surveillance programs stem from a single source: Edward Snowden. Obama "validated Edward Snowden's role as a whistle-blower" with his proposals to revamp NSA programs, Assange said in a written statement Saturday.
"But rather than thank Edward Snowden, the president laughably attempted to criticize him while claiming that there was a plan all along, 'before Edward Snowden,'" Assange said. "The simple fact is that without Snowden's disclosures, no one would know about the programs and no reforms could take place." Obama would dispute that assessment, saying on Friday that his hopes to improve privacy protections within NSA programs and improve public information about those programs pre-date news about Snowden. "I don't think Mr. Snowden was a patriot," Obama said at a White House news conference, noting "I called for a thorough review of our surveillance operations before Mr. Snowden made these leaks." Read more...

Groups representing indigenous communities have blasted the Hausa-Fulani ruling class, saying their cold response to the violent activities of the Boko Haram sect amounted to complicity. These groups at a joint press conference in Lagos to mark the United Nations Day of indigenous communities on Friday, urged Nigerians to reject any politician that had links with the violent sect during the 2015 general elections.
The groups including the Green Peoples Environmental Network, Southern Nigerian Ethnic Nationality Alliance, O’odua Nationalist Coalition, the Coalition of Nigerian Civil Right Groups and the United Middle Belt Youth Congress, said the conflict in the Maghreb region and Boko Haram insurgency had led to displacement of indigenous communities and the seizure of ancestral homelands, rape and killings of innocent civilians by the armed Islamic gangs.

Jang, Amaechi clash again •Plateau gov invites govs to meeting today •He is an impostor –Rivers State governor •Jang faction may meet Obasanjo tomorrow

Amaechi and Jang.
The crisis within the Nigeria Governors’ Forum appears not to be over despite recent moves by the governors to find a way out. On Saturday, the  Chairman of the forum, Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, asked his colleagues to shun a meeting called by a factional chairman of the forum, Governor Jonah Jang of Plateau State. Amaechi also described Jang in unflattering terms.
Jang, in a letter sent to governors on Friday, had invited them for a meeting holding in Abuja later today. Amaechi won the forum’s May 24, 2013 chairmanship election with 19 votes as against Jang’s 16, but the Plateau governor insisted he won the election. The Rivers governor, in a message to one of our correspondents on Saturday, said it was wrong for Jang to continue calling for meetings when it was apparent that he did not win the forum’s chairmanship election. Read more..
